For the time being, the Austria part of this website is restricted to a number of climbs in the far west of the country and four climbs in Carinthia. Almost every ascent contains a viciously steep section. Hence, the steepest kilometer always slopes, with a single exception, at least 10%. Most roads are wide and of good quality; unfortunately, they are rarely narrow or providing a feeling of loneliness. The hardest ascent in Austria on this website is the Ötztaler Gletscherstraße, to date (2020) even the number 1 on the whole site's list of the hardest climbs. Near to the Ötztaler Gletscherstraße lies another remarkable climb, the Kaunertaler Gletscherstraße, superior in terms of scenic beauty and the number 4 on the same list.
